michael heiser's blog at #6 position also discusses UFO's!!!
anyway, the reb discusses politics and other stuff simply because in the OT, we do not compartmentalize life into simple neat boxes. all of life comes under God. hence, to discuss politics is to discuss a component of what the OT has to say.
look at all the 8th century BC prophets (Isaiah, Micah, Amos, Hosea). you can't but read their stirring indictments on the political scene of 8th century BC Israel and Judah. likewise, the 7th and 6th century prophets like Jonah, Habbakuk, Nahum, Joel, and Jeremiah. even the post-exilic prophets of Haggai and Zechariah has something to say about the political rulers like Zerrubbabel the governor and Joshua the high priest.
the reb in commenting on the socio-politico-economical climate of the country is doing exactly what an OT prophet would be doing - a socio-commentator with the scriptures on one hand and the newspaper on the other.
if the reb only speak purely about the OT as in the ancient documents, then he is out of place and out of touch and perhaps irrelevant.
tks Rabi for enlightenment! God bless the rabi..ha !
anyway, I still think that , there is distinction between, talking OT and talking contemporary politics.
However, maybe you try to say, rabi apply OT theology/studies into critic of contemporary politics, then its superb welldone...! as Barth says, one hand with newspaper, one hand with the Bible.
I may miss that out, because I dont follow closely all the rabi blog's posting... haha, apologise...
Who is NT wrong? Is he ant-thesis to NT wright?
ReplyDeleteRabbi blog discusses politics much more than OT, like that, also considered bible blog?haha...
